Lemar has reinterpreted tracks by the who’s who on the great soul singers, including Al Green, Sam Cooke and Van Morrison, while purposely avoiding the well-known track choices.
Discussing the covers Lemar said: “For me, the artists who may have made this form of album – interpreting other people’s work – and tried it convincingly have got a no-holds-barred approach. If I would definitely do this, I had to acheive it properly. My versions would have to be raw and gritty. They had to show the essence on the songs.” Check Love turned hate sheet music.
