You might not know R. City by name, but you’d recognize their resume.
Theron “Uptown AP” and Timothy “A.I.” Thomas are behind several of the biggest hip-hop and pop hits from the last few years. The Saint Thomas-born brothers been employed by on blockbuster hits with the likes of Sean Kingston (“Take You There”), Miley Cyrus (“We Can’t Stop”), and Nicki Minaj (“Only”), and contributed to GRAMMY-nominated and award-winning albums by Rihanna, Jennifer Hudson, and Ariana Grande.
Now the duo, who call themselves R. City, are breaking out with his or her music, and debuting film for the first single off their major label debut album, “Locked Away,” exclusively on ETonline.
The song, that has been produced by Dr. Luke, is really a personal track which pulls on the Thomas brothers’ experiences we were young with a father who was simply in jail for six years during his sons’ childhood. It features vocals from Maroon 5 lead singer Adam Levine (who went totally bald for the playback quality). The brothers hope misused will introduce the entire world to their innovative sound.
“It’s each of our genre,” Theron explains. “We it is known as Caribbean hip-hop. There are factors of rap as well as the islands. This is the very first time that most people will definitely hear us, therefore we want to come forth with something big.”
The music video features vignettes of love, loss, poverty, and imprisonment, prepared over Levine’s crooned chorus “If I got locked away / so we lost it all today / inform me honestly / could you still love me exactly the same?”
